Apple’s legendary designer Jony Ive is preparing to open a new chapter in artificial intelligence. Joining forces with OpenAI, Ive confirmed that he is working on a hardware project focused on artificial intelligence.
Jony Ive is working with OpenAI
According to the latest news, Jony Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have teamed up through Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky. The project, funded by Ive’s new design company LoveFrom and the Emerson Collective led by Laurene Powell Jobs (Steve Jobs’ ex-wife), is aimed at an AI-specific device.
The details of the project are not yet clear. However, Ive and Altman are reportedly working on a new device where productive artificial intelligence can perform more complex tasks than standard software. This indicates that artificial intelligence technologies will play an important role in the next generation hardware design.
The team working in a 32 thousand square meter office consists of 10 people. However, this small team includes important names such as Apple executives Tang Tan and Evans Hankey, who worked with Ive on iPhone design.
Marc Newson, co-founder of LoveFrom, said that the project and release date have not yet been finalized. The company also aims to raise $1 billion in funding by the end of the year.
With Ive’s experience in design and Altman’s expertise in AI, this collaboration could have a big impact on the AI industry. Of course, the future of productive AI-powered hardware projects remains uncertain for now.
